Regional tour: „L’iniZio“ / Cie Chriki’Z
Chriki’Z is a renowned hip-hop dance company that explores various aesthetics within the discipline. With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approaching, where breaking will make its official debut, Chriki’Z aims to showcase the richness and diversity of hip-hop dance beyond its purely sporting aspects.
L’iniZio, an iconic piece created in 2013, is inspired by Michelangelo’s Genesis on the vault of the Sistine Chapel. It is performed by five dancers and combines expressive movements and subtle gestures with a diverse soundtrack. The piece is divided into three main parts, each exploring the dynamic between the individual and the group, as well as self-assertion and collective interaction. L’iniZio represents Chriki’Z’s approach to integrating hip-hop dance with other art forms, sometimes incorporating elements of circus, text, and live music to enhance the stage experience.
During their tour in Sofia and Sarajevo, Chriki’Z is not only performing L’iniZio, but also engaging in discussions with the audience. These discussions aim to provide insight into the piece and explore the evolution of hip-hop dance. Additionally, the company is collaborating with local partners, such as the Bulgarian Breaking Federation, to organize choreographic workshops. These workshops are designed to explore the basics of breaking and introduce new sounds and rhythms into the dancers’ practice.
This program is being supported through the Teatroskop 2024 call for projects.
