Cie Ar: Performances and workshops in Croatia and Serbia

The contemporary circus collective ROOM 100 is collaborating with Cirkorama (Zagreb), Cirkusfera (Belgrade), and The House Collective (Klanjec) to organize a tour of Company Ar. They are bringing their show „Fora“ and contortion workshops to the SEE region.

„Fora“ means „outside“ in several languages, including Portuguese, Catalan, and Sardinian. In her project, artist Alice Rende performs a contortionist solo inside a plexiglass box. Through her twisted and contorted movements, she expresses a desperate struggle against domination and pays tribute to those who “don’t fit in”.

The performance „Fora“ has been selected as a laureate for Circusnext in the 2022-2023 edition. During its creation, the project received support from Cirkorama and ROOM 100 in the form of residencies and work-in-progress presentations. By inviting the finished performance, they continue collaborating with both the artist and the audience.

Furthermore, the “Flexibility and Creative Movement” workshop is designed to enhance the unique flexibility of each body, and explore how this flexibility can be transformed into expressiveness.

About Alice Rende:

After graduating from the Brazilian National Circus School, she obtained a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She then moved to Europe, where she participated in productions such as „Silenzio“ and „Passages“. Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree in circus art, with a focus on vertigo. Alongside her studies, she teaches contortion at various establishments both in Europe and Brazil.
