“A Doll’s House” / Cie Plexus Polaire
The performance A Doll’s House combines theatre, puppetry, dance, and music. It is directed by Yngvild Aspeli and Paola Rizza. Inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s famous play, this adaptation revisits the family drama set in a small Norwegian town in 1879, just before Christmas. The story follows Nora Helmer, a housewife facing the repercussions of an illegal loan taken out to save her husband.
The performance is characterized by its intimate staging, where objects and characters never leave the scene, creating the feeling that the play is happening „behind closed doors“. The puppets, sometimes blurry or in the background, help create an atmosphere where the past and present come together, reflecting Nora’s internal struggles. Additionally, the presence of birds, represented by hyper-realistic puppets and 3D video, adds another layer to the staging.
Through this reinterpretation, A Doll’s House explores gender roles and the position of women in a man-dominated world while highlighting the journey toward personal emancipation.
This program is being supported through the Teatroskop 2024 call for projects.
