Sophie Bocquet : regional tour, workshops and creative residencies

In May 2024, choreographer Sophie Bocquet’s solo “Daria” will tour Serbia and Bosnia, accompanied by workshops and meetings with various audiences. A residency to create an in-situ performance is also planned with dancer and choreographer Olga Uzikaeva.

„Daria“ is the first part of a trilogy called „On s’enferme dedans, puis on essaie de renter“. This project includes a duet as well as a piece for four performers and musicians. Sophie’s previous trips to the SEE region were the inspiration behind this project.

For this performance, dancer and choreographer Sophie Bocquet has taken free inspiration from Anton Chekhov’s short story “Room No. 6”, published in 1892. However, her interpretation of the story is personal and not an adaptation. The performance is named „Daria“ after the eponymous character in the short story: in “Room No. 6”, which tells the story of a doctor who descends into madness, Daria is the only female character and appears in only a few lines of the story.

About Sophie Bocquet:

Sophie has performed with several contemporary dance companies before launching her first solo performance named „Golden Girl“ in 2008. From then on, she started exploring textual writing alongside choreography. Sophie is also the founder of PIEDDEBICHE association. Her work focuses on stories, everyday experiences, and the expressions of body language. She seeks to create alternative approaches to creation in dance and theatre through her work.

This program is being supported through the Teatroskop 2024 call for projects.
